Individual Paediatric Occupational Therapy Sessions in Brisbane

We are a mobile-based Occupational Therapy (OT) service, where we visit your child’s kindy, school, or home, providing 1-1 OT sessions in familiar settings. We can also build on community access skills and support your child in new or unfamiliar community settings, such as grocery stores. Thrive OT focuses on therapy in your child’s natural environment where activities are meaningful and directly related to their daily lives and goals - leading to greater outcomes. We are passionate about family-centred therapy and value collaboration with the whole family unit, your child’s educators, and treating health professionals to support development of various skills within yours and your child’s everyday routines.

What happens in an individual OT session?

Sessions run for 60 minutes of face-to-face contact, with travel and any report writing charged additionally per appointment. After an initial parent/caregiver interview to set goals and gather your child's history, we begin with rapport-building sessions before structured intervention starts. Each session is play-based — for children, play is the primary occupation, and it's the most natural way to develop motor, sensory, social, and regulation skills. Parents and caregivers are welcome to be involved; we view families as the experts on their child and weave home-friendly strategies into every plan. Session frequency is usually weekly or fortnightly, tailored to your child's goals and your family's capacity.

Who is individual paediatric OT for?

We work with children aged 3–16 across a wide range of developmental, sensory, and participation needs. A formal diagnosis isn't required. Families come to us for support with sensory processing, emotional regulation, fine and gross motor skills, handwriting, executive function, self-care routines, social participation, and community access. As an AuDHD-led, neurodiversity-affirming practice, we have particular experience supporting autistic and ADHD children, including those with PDA and Gestalt Language Processing profiles.

Where do sessions happen?

Most sessions are mobile — we come to your child's home, kindy, school, or out into the community where everyday challenges actually happen. We primarily service inner-city Brisbane suburbs, with travel options across Greater Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and Northern Rivers NSW (quoted per appointment). Telehealth is available Australia-wide. In-clinic sessions can be arranged on request at North Lakes or Grange.

How much does an individual session cost?

Our fees align with the NDIA hourly rate of $193.99 per hour, so NDIS self-managed and plan-managed clients pay no out-of-pocket gap. Travel is also charged per the NDIA guidelines. Private clients are charged the same hourly rate (subject to change). We accept private health insurance for occupational therapy — rebates depend on your fund and level of cover, and a gap fee may apply. Medicare partial funding is available via a GP Chronic Conditions Management Plan (up to 5 sessions/year) or Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder Plan (up to 20 sessions/lifetime), both requiring a GP or paediatrician referral.
